About

The Makercrate was borne out of a project from Colab181 in Wellington. It was launched for the first time at Makertorium, New Zealand's first maker faire held at Te Papa in April 2013.

The pop-up nature of the Makercrate made it fit for purpose to ignite a maker community in Christchurch.

In July 2013, with the help of a grant from the Christchurch City Council Creative Community Fund, the MakerCrate was shipped down to Christchurch and became MakerCrate:chch.

The world's first Makercrate contained New Zealand's first Wikihouse as cargo, which had been cut at New Zealand's first Fab Lab for Makertorium.

A ground breaking series of events!

MakerCrate:chch is now an active fixture at the Pallet Pavilion site on the corner of Kilmore and Durham Streets.
